Afcon stadiums and infrastructure.
Botswana has proposed to spend $754.7 million on building three new stadiums and upgrading three more for its 2027 AFCON bid. They stadia will be built in Kasane, Maun and Greater Gaborone. The Botswana National Stadium, Obedi Itani Stadium and Lobatse Stadium will be upgraded.
Botswana will have six venues to host the AFCON 2027, should the country win the bid.
The three existing stadia in Gaborone, Lobatse and Francistown will be renovated, while Maun, Kasane and Greater Gaborone will acquire new stadia because more venues are needed.

State-owned rail companies from Botswana and South Africa are seeking funding for a R4 billion railway line between the two countries to transport commodities, including coal.
The Mmamabula-Lephalale link will run 113 kilometers and have a capacity of 24 million tons a year. It will connect to existing routes to South Africa’s Richards Bay and the Maputo port in Mozambique — both key export terminals for bulk minerals.
An expression of interest showed the project will also involve upgrades of existing facilities such as the Multiple Purpose Terminal at Richards Bay to accommodate the increased volumes from Botswana. Transnet Freight Rail and Botswana Railways will run it as a public-private partnership, with no financial contributions from the two governments.
